Holing out in the one stroke below bogey or par. |
| Bisque |
A form of stroke handicapping. A player with a “bisque” stroke may nominate the hole at which he takes a “bisque”, reducing by one the number of strokes taken. He may nominate to take a bisque after the hole has been completed. |
| Blaster |
A pre war term given to a heavy niblick. |
| Blind hole |
When the green or flag cannot be seen from the teeing ground. |
| Bluger |
Old name given to a driving club with a convex face. |
| Bogey |
The scratch value of a hole. The number of shots expected to be taken. |
| Bogey Competition |
The player gets 3/4 of his handicap and plays against par. |
| Bolt |
A ball which runs into the hole at a highspeed. |
| Borrow |
The allowance for the slope of the green when putting. |
| Brassie |
Term used pre-war for the No. 2 wood. The sole of the club was fitted with a brass plate. |
| Bunker |
Original name for a sand pit. A deep hollow filled with sand to form a hazard. |
| Burma road |
Name given to the West Course at Wentworth due to its degree of difficulty within its wooded setting. |
| Burn |
Scottish stream or ditch. |
| Bye |
The holes remaining to be played when the main match has ended. |
